Claudia’s Borgna’s work explores the evolution of the landscape as affected by our intervention, the man-made object and the inconvenient accumulation and disposability of our waste. Claudia’s sculptural installations transform the discarded carrier bag and its environmental connotations into a poetic act of intention that is elegant and beautiful, questioning notions of permanence and value.
Claudia Borgna was artist in residence at The Rea Garden throughout January February and March 2010. Throughout the duration of the residency Claudia created a series of temporary installations from her recycled carrier bags. Having two public openings, at mid-point and final stages of the residency, the audience were given the opportunity to see the evolution of the work. Claudia’s residency has now finished and the bags removed, to be used in the next artwork by the artist.
Claudia has exhibited internationally since graduating in 2005 and has undertaken a series of residencies in the USA, including the Santa Fe Institute of Arts, New Mexico. Claudia has received several awards including a UK Royal British Society of Sculptors Bursary. In 2009 she was short listed for the BBC 2 documentary ‘Saatchi: Best of British’.
